Radiology Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
How do I get referred to Nelson Radiology Imaging?
You usually need to be referred by the GP, Consultant, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or other healthcare specialist looking after you. Please note that if the diagnostic test uses x-rays i.e. plain x-rays, CT or fluoroscopy, usually only Consultants or GPs, are allowed to request or forward a relevant clinical letter to Nelson Radiology.
We will usually contact you or send out an appointment including the details of the preparation for the investigation.
How long will I have to wait for an MRI/CT?
We try very hard to give you an appointment that is convenient for you and most imaging including ultrasound scan, MRI or CT scans are usually completed within 7 days. We will contact you about your appointment via telephone, email or post.
How do I get the results of my imaging?
Nelson Radiology at the hospital where your imaging was performed produces a typed report which is sent directly to the person who referred you for the test. If urgent, the test result can be faxed/scanned or the results conveyed by telephone to the referrer.
Please contact your referring doctor or practitioner to receive the result. Nelson Radiology Admin staff are unable to give results directly to patients.
How long does it take to produce the report of my imaging?
In the majority of cases the report is issued within 24 hours of the test being completed, although more specialist investigations may take a little longer, especially if a specific Radiologist is required to interpret them. Once the report is issued, it will be posted to your referring specialist.
